Isabel was the first wife of Prince John who was established as the main antagonist in the Robin Hood stories by Howard Pyle in his 1883 book The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood where John's characterization is heavily influenced by his portrayal in Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe.
